COMP PREP:

If you need to patch your gi before the competition, please do so ASAP - you can buy your patch pack online or at the front desk and reach Amie to schedule an application appointment at 303.968.8000

Best Practices:
Bring water and healthy snacks. Plan to keep yourself and your athlete fueled throughout the day.
While we love healthy snacks, your kid may need a little sugar boost - honey, gummy bears, starburst… or a little chocolate can be supportive.
Get plenty of rest leading up to the competition. Do not work too-hard the day before the competition. Light exercise and lots of play are recommended.
Some competitors like to visit the competition venue in advance to get comfortable in the space, so it feels familiar on the day of the competition.
Please plan to keep all communication among our team AND with competitors positive and kind. Our coaches and staff will handle all tricky conversations.
Let’s give extra grace to our own students and their competitors who may not be acting from their best and highest self.
Be prepared for your kids to have big and confusing emotions. Honor what’s true for them without judgement.
Competing is hard. Expect the best, plan for every scenario and stay kind and positive.
If a match is stopped for safety or any other reason, we will honor the ref’s judgment. If the ref makes a mistake, we let it go.

On Comp Day:
Have a protein-based breakfast.
Arrive hydrated.
Bring snacks.
Wear your gi pants and Comp Team shirt (or any GRPL HAUS merch)
We recommend wearing your rash guard underneath your shirt for easy changing.
Bring your mouthguard
We recommend that athletes bring a change of clothes.
Spectators should wear comfortable shoes. Consider bringing yourself a change of clothes.
Bring supplies to help siblings entertain themselves.
We recommend a park blanket or other item for comfort.
Be prepared for changing temperatures. Venues can be hot or cold.

Most importantly:
Remember - your athletes are looking to you for support and approval.
However they do in the competition, make sure they know you are proud of their effort.
We are proud that they showed up, worked hard, and were nice.
Win, lose, or draw - we’re proud of them!
